Mekong Cruise From Phnom Penh to Siem Reap 5 Days (Upstream)

DAY 1: Phnom Penh Exploration (-/L/D)
Transfer from your hotel to Phnom Penh International Pier, where you meet the cruise team then today we start with a full day guided sightseeing tour to Phnom Penh main tourist attractions including The Killing Field “Cheung Ek” where hundreds of lives were proceeded between 1975 and 1979 under Khmer Rouge. Return to witness tragic Tuol Sleng museum, was a former high school, which was turned to Tortured Prison S-21 later. If you don’t want to visit these sad sites, alternatively, explore the city in the morning on your own before re-joining the group. Have delicious lunch at a selected fine restaurant in the city.

Afternoon, visit the Royal Palace – is a complex of buildings which serves as the royal residence of the king of Cambodia, Silver Pagoda, Royal Stupas, French style building etc and admired by the National Museum; the world’s most important collection of Khmer sculpture and carvings.  The day trip ends with a “cyclo” ride back to the ship through the bustling streets of downtown
Phnom Penh. Take some rest before a lecture about Cambodian modern history is conducted by a professor of the Royal University of Phnom Penh. Evening, enjoy BBQ dinner followed by Apsara traditional dance performance.

DAY 2: High or Low Water (B/L/D)
High Water: Phnom Penh – Kampong Cham (Mekong)
The ship begins to sail in the early morning along the Mekong River to towards Angkor Ban Village – the untouched community remains beautiful, traditional houses. Back on board to see a variety of traditional Khmer fashion. We cruise further up the Mekong to visit a local school and understand more about the education of the young Cambodian generation (NGO project). Continue by road to visit Wat Hanchey – one of the Pre-Angkorain temples, built in 7th century, pampered by breath-taking views over the Mekong. The tour is admired by colorful monastery of Wat Nokor when we’re heading back on board and you are free to relax until dinner is served. Anchor and overnight in Kampong Cham.

Low Water: Phnom Penh – Kampong Chhnang (Tonle Sap)
Before the sunrise breaks, we gently cruise towards Kampong Tralach on Tonle Sap River – an amazing narrow river and see picturesque landscape. We reach Kampong Tralach by local boat and the first impression is the sound of welcoming from friendly children. We will stop at the “Green School” which is partly supported by Heritage Line. See all the river life, which is so different than ours – by a local oxcart ride. Back on board to see a variety of traditional Khmer fashion before the lunch is served. The ship continues to sail to Kampong Chhnang, disembark for a guided tour to the village specialties – Khmer style pottery and the making of palm sugar before returning to the boat we explore the floating villages and wetlands of the region. Anchor and overnight in Kampong Chhnang.

DAY 3: High or Low Water (B/L/D)
High Water: Kampong Cham (Mekong) – Kampong Chhnang (Tonle)
We sail downstream on the Mekong and stop at the Island of Koh Oknha Tey, we explore the island by tuk tuk to reveal its famous Cambodian high class silk products as well as learn how silk is processed from its source, provided by little silkworms. A presentation about “Geography of the Mekong and Tonle Sap” will be provided on board before the lunch is started to serve. A ritual blessing ceremony will be offered by religious monks for good wishes for our health and prosperity for all. The ship continues its journey, passing by the confluence of the Mekong and Tonle Rivers towards Kampong Tralach. We reach Kampong Tralach by local boat and the first impression is the sound of welcoming from friendly children. We will stop at the “Green School” which is partly supported by Heritage Line. See all the river life, which is so different than ours – by a local oxcart ride. Anchor and overnight in Kampong Chhnang.

Low Water: Tonle River – Kampong Cham (Mekong)
As we’re enjoying breakfast, the ship cruises from lower Tonle River to the Island of Koh Oknha Tey, we explore the island by tuk tuk to reveal its famous Cambodian high class silk products as well as learn how silk is processed from its source, provided by little silkworms. A presentation about “Geography of the Mekong and Tonle Sap” will be provided on board before the lunch is started to serve. A ritual blessing ceremony will be offered by religious monks for good wishes for our health and prosperity for all. The ship continues gliding to Angkor Ban Village – the untouched community remains beautiful, traditional houses. Afterwards it’s time for some fun at a cocktail party on the riverbank. Anchor and overnight in Kampong Cham.

DAY 4: High or Low Water (B/L/D)
High Water: Kampong Chhnang – Tonle Lake
You may like to rise early in the morning to experience Tai Chi class which is admired by beautiful scenery. Once we arrived in Kampong Chhnang, disembark for a guided tour to the village specialties – Khmer style pottery and the making of palm sugar before returning to the boat we explore the floating villages and wetlands of the region. Get on board for delicious lunch as the cruise resumes the journey along the narrow towards Siem Reap Tonle Sap Great Lake – the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia as well as UNESCO’s site. Enjoy own leisure with spectacular view of The Great Lake before high tea is served and you’re invited to the farewell event as the twilight breaks at horizon. Anchor and overnight in Siem Reap.

Low Water: Kampong Cham (Mekong)
After breakfast, disembark and continue by road to visit Wat Hanchey – one of the Pre-Angkorain temples, built in 7th century, pampered by breath-taking views over the Mekong. Back to our ship for lunch and relaxation. Afternoon, visit the tiny, colorful monastery of Wat Nokor and take interesting photos of the bamboo bridge across Mekong River from the city to Pan island. Near the end of the day trip, we visit a local school and understand more about the education of the young Cambodian generation (NGO project). Evening, you’re invited to the farewell event as the twilight breaks at horizon. Anchor and overnight in Siem Reap.

DAY 5: High or Low Water (B)
High Water: Tonle Lake – Siem Reap
The Tonle Sap (The Great Lake) is the fl owing heart of Cambodia, giving love and life to millions of people. It has more fish than any other lake in the world and is home to an incredible variety of birds, including rare and endangered feathered life. Our Heritage Line cruise comes to an end. We prepare to disembark the ship and take a local boat to the shore, passing a vast floating community. Around nine o’clock, we arrive at the Siem Reap pier and bring you to the drop off point in the city center.

Low Water: Kampong Cham (Mekong) – Siem Reap
Enjoy your last breakfast on board our floating sanctuary. We disembark the ship for a transfer by bus to the drop off point in Siem Reap. The transfer takes about 4.5 hours. Snacks are provided during the trip. You will arrive in Siem Reap in the early afternoon.
